Warren Coble & Associates – To Warren…Everyone is Family

I met Warren Coble at a committee meeting for the local Alzheimer’s Walk many years ago.  He was passionate about the cause, having learned firsthand how devastating the disease can be, not only on the person with dementia or Alzheimer’s but on the family members providing care for them.  At the time, he struck me as a remarkably caring individual, to whom family means everything. Warren was born and raised in Randolph County.  He has been happily married to Robbie Kinney Coble for 44 years, has three children, four grandchildren,…

As travelers or dwellers, we have all felt a city’s heart beat in tune with ours. Breathing in a new place is a unique type of falling in love, an inner rapture with its rhythm and beauty. Every city gives off a singular scent, a singular sensation to whom may experience it; to describe such a thing poses a challenge for words, thankfully “wonderful” and “magical” come to our aid. Most central cities of our modern world are made up of globally-cultured people, free-thinkers believing in an array of Gods.…

Reverse Culture Shock

It is amazing how easily we, as human beings, adapt.  Most people, mental illnesses aside, can and do adjust to their surroundings very quickly.  After living in Ecuador for two years, I had all but forgotten about the conveniences in the United States that I missed when I first arrived.  Things like getting a hot cup of gourmet coffee just about anywhere, super stores that carry everything from artichokes to zinc, and fast food restaurants open until the wee hours of the morning were quickly forgotten as I adjusted to…

Macular Degeneration Prevention

Although macular degeneration prevention is possible, there isn’t a foolproof method of avoiding the disease.  There are, however, steps you can take to help reduce your risk. Pay special attention to prevention if you already have a diagnosis of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) or if the disease runs in your family. AMD is the leading cause of irreversible vision loss among people older than 60 years of age.  In time, a person with macular degeneration may find it difficult or impossible to read, drive or recognize familiar faces.
