Yes, we are talking about the Communities in Schools infamous annual Tacky Christmas Sweater Party. The event will be held on Thursday, Dec. 7, from 5:30-8 p.m. at the Cetwick, 162 N. Cherry St., Asheboro, for what has become an annual holiday tradition. 2017 Planning Committee include Shannon Foster -Chair, Mark Strider, Beth Knott, Kurt Sullivan, Robin Necci, Laura King, Kelly Shipley, Isai Robeldo, and Aimee Scotton. Mary Lisk is spearheading the Sponsorship committee which includes Claire Davis, Ann Hoover, Waynette Araj, Sherry Johnson, Bonnie Renfro, Tyson Nixon, and Brandi Runyan Crumley.
“The Tacky Christmas Sweater Party is Communities in Schools major fund-raiser to sustain programs to ensure students success in school and in life” said Foster. “Thanks to the CIS’s work, thousands of students receive the support and resources they need to stay in school and be successful”.

Last year’s event raised more than $25,000, and involved a growing number of community volunteers and increased support from sponsors and donors. ” We are excited to see a 20% increase in new sponsors, said Lisk, with more sponsors from across the county”.

All guests wearing a tacky Christmas sweater will be entered into a contest to receive the “Tacky Sweater” trophy and a year of Chick-fil-A. A highlight of the evening is the Feed a Need, a live auction to raise money for the Back Pack program which provides food to hundreds of needy students. As part of the program, children at many schools take home a backpack full of kid-friendly food every weekend of the school year and during summer school.

Guests will enjoy dinner provided by Millstone Catering of Liberty, wine from local vendors, music by Stepping Out Entertainment and beer from Natty Greene’s Brewing . Asheboro Junior Women’s Club members will serve as this year’s elves greeting guests and serving wine and beer. Tickets are $30 and sponsorships are available at various levels, starting at $250.
