Premiere Pediatrics – Celebrating 10 Years in 2017

Premiere Pediatrics

Celebrating 10 Years in 2017

How do you celebrate your 10th anniversary in business if you are a busy pediatric office – you expand, of course! Premiere Pediatrics moved into their current space in April, 2014 right next door to Carolina Pharmacy, which offers their patients’ great convenience as the staff can call or fax over a prescription, and by the time mom walks in or puts the kids in the car and drives around the building to the drive-thru window, it’s ready.
This month, Premiere Pediatrics began construction of an addition to their building that will offer more space to accommodate their growing practice. They will have three more exam rooms, a nurse’s station, weigh station and much needed storage space. While construction is going on this fall, Carolina Pharmacy’s drive thru is still open and accessible. They will be adding another nurse practitioner, and two other employees to fill the new space once construction is complete.
When Dr. Wayne Connors opened his practice in 2007, he had no idea it would grow this fast. He and his staff work very hard to care for their patients and make them feel at home.
“I wanted to make Premiere Pediatrics a special place, not just a place where kids came when they were sick to get well.”
With a growing staff, office manager Carolyn Ward is kept very busy. In addition to her taking care of the needs of the office, she oversees construction of the addition and fields many questions from the contractors on site throughout the day.
In 2008 Jennifer Charlesworth joined Premiere Pediatrics as a Nurse Practitioner. She had worked in several different areas of Randolph Hospital prior to joining the practice, and all of her previous experience helps her at Premiere Pediatrics.
“I think this is what I was meant to do, I love the dynamics of working with the kids and talking to the parents and we love living in Asheboro because we can go to the grocery store and so many of our patients and their families will come up to me and say hi.”
Lauren Kime joined the practice in June 2015. She worked at the Women’s Hospital in the Neo-natal intensive care unit as a registered nurse, while attending school to become a nurse practitioner. Originally from Ramseur, she now lives in Climax.

“Premiere Pediatrics is a happy place to work and we love our patients.” Lauren told me.

Noah Ward joins the staff at Premiere Pediatrics as their newest employee. He graduated from Asheboro High School in 2017, where he took the Nursing Fundamentals class. He took the CNA certificate and passed in May. He worked at Premiere Pediatrics all summer, and is enrolled in the nursing program at UNCG for this fall with the goal of becoming a Nurse Practitioner. While attending school, he will continue to work at Premiere Pediatrics on Friday and Saturdays. The kids adore his calm demeanor and easygoing personality.
Premiere Pediatrics has 11 staff members over all. In October, 2015 they extended their hours from 8 to 6 Monday through Thursday, 8 to 5 pm on Friday, no longer close for lunch, and they added Saturday hours from 8 to 12 pm to accommodate parents’ schedules, and the growing needs of their patients. Premiere Pediatrics offers a full array of services to help your child maintain good health, including well child check-ups, immunizations, sports physicals, as well as taking care of them when they are sick.

With the new school year upon them, Doc and staff are busy with physicals and giving shots required by the State of North Carolina. If you have a school aged child that needs a physical to play sports, or is required by law to have updated shots – please call the office and make an appointment TODAY – the staff urges you not to wait until the last minute – before you get called to the principal’s office and your child gets suspended!!
Premiere Pediatrics offers “Mommy Call,” for concerned parents with questions after hours. You call the main number, press “2” and are connected with one of the practitioners from the office – not an answering service, not a larger medical facility, but one of the people who know you, have access to your records, and can answer your questions knowledgeably. In addition to Mommy Call, they have a nurse’s line during office hours. If you have a medical question or need a prescription refill, but don’t need an appointment to see the doctor, you can call the office and again press “2” during business hours and you will be connected with someone who can assist you.
“We do everything we can to make it more convenient for our parents and patients.”

Premiere Pediatrics is very involved in local sports programs and with signs at the fields. They sponsor local sports on, and other local outlets. Many grandparents have come up to Carolyn and thanked her for their sponsorships because they can’t always get to the games, but they can listen to them wherever they happen to be. They are members of the Asheboro Randolph Chamber of Commerce, and they make as many purchases as possible locally for the practice, supporting the local businesses.
Jeremy Sams, a local artist, painted the murals on every wall in the original building, and once the new construction is complete he will be back to paint new scenes in the additional exam rooms and common areas. His artwork is stunning and very detailed, and with protective plastic coverings installed – the murals will last for many years.

Kids come first at Premiere Pediatrics – their health is the number one concern. With the expansion, they will be able to serve more families than ever in the community. Carolyn Ward told me that she has very high expectations of her staff. “When you are working with other people’s children, it’s important that you treat them like they are your own. I don’t just work for Dr. Connors and Premiere Pediatrics, I trust my own kids with him.”
To make an appointment, call the office at 336.625.0500. They are located at 530 Greensboro Street, right next door to Carolina Pharmacy. Please pardon their appearance while they construct the additional space to serve Randolph County better. For more information, visit their website at
